Hyperdrive

Hyperdrive is the generic name for a class of technologies that allow a starship to translate into hyperspace and travel at FTL? speeds. Several approaches were tried over time; in the aftermath of the Kinac Wars, though, the so-called jump drive has become a de facto standard.

Jump drives are an order of magnitude faster than competing technologies, allowing apparent speeds of over 30000 times c. They are less tactically flexible, though, requiring a non-negligible recharge time after each jump.
