Civilizations
Much like the Megaspace itself, the local civilizations are conventionally divided into Spinward and Antispinward groups.
The Spinward civilizations
The Spinward civilizations have developed slowly over several millenia, thoroughly terraforming? and colonizing suitable new worlds before expanding further. Thus, although they have had hyperdrive for a long time, they have expanded much less than their long history would lead one to expect.
The Antispinward civilizations
The Antispinward sentient species have been in the path of the Elder? migration. Their history has been comparatively eventful, as they have shown a tendency to spread faster than they need, especially since cheap FTL has made this possible on an interstellar scale.
